Mr Richard Baker is a specialist joint replacement surgeon. He trained to be an Orthopeadic consultant in Bristol and Vancouver and tailored his training to be able to offer both hip and knee replacements including revision of both. He was appointed to the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (Southmead Hospital) in January 2012. Using the skills he learned in Bristol and North America he now performs in excess of 300 joint replacements a year. Working as a team with aneasthetist Dr Tolchard he has done over 2,500 operations between Southmead Hospital, the Bristol Spire Hospital and the Bristol Chesterfield Hospital. He is a member of both the hip and knee joint revision teams at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre where specialist opinions are sought on the most complex cases. Robotic knee surgery is offered at the Chesterfield Hospital. He is currently the advisory editor of Hip International, the Journal of the European Hip Society and has been invited to lecture at many international conferences. He is currently the hip lead at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre.
